Submission Guidelines

Last Updated: May 11, 2025
Submitting to the Resource sites can be tricky if you aren’t brushed up on some of our standards. We will try to keep these guidelines streamlined, but please make sure you read through before you make a mistake which could wind up costing you a lot more time than you will spend reading.

What is not accept?
First and foremost, we do not accept original characters or fan characters. This mostly applies to custom submissions but can apply if you are the creator of a game. It is up to the judgement of the site’s staff as to whether a game or submission has received enough recognition to be accepted. We only accept content from media ripped from a commercially released or notably reputable game. We only accept custom content for things which appear within a game, or gaming related media (for example, characters from Sonic the Hedgehog comics, cartoons, etc.).

Most of all, we DO NOT ACCEPT STOLEN CONTENT. If you did not rip or create the contribution you are making, it will be rejected, and you will receive a warning. We take this very seriously. Claiming to have put the work in when you have can lead to your account being suspended. Do not submit content you simply found online. We have done this long enough that we are likely to recognise your theft, so please, don’t try it.

How do I upload content to the site?
First, you must register an account to be able to add new content to our archive. To register, simply go to the [link]Registration Page[/link] and fill in your details. You will need to verify your account with a valid email address before being able to upload to the site.

How do I rip content?
While our website is focused on content extracted from games, we are not a complete source for information on how to reverse engineer or rip content from every game on the market. While we do have some information that may be of assistance to you on our [link]VG Resource Wiki[/link], it may not cover the specific game you are looking to rip. We would suggest joining our [Link Error] community as an initial step to ask for information (be sure to ask in the correct channel) but you may be best seeking information on the wider internet.

File Formats
The Resource sites accept PNG, GIF, or ZIP where relevant. For models and sounds, only zips can be uploaded. For images, we always advise you to use .PNG, as GIF can have color limitations. PNG also accepts alpha transparency.
For ZIPs, we advise that you organise your submissions with folders where possible. For specifics on Sounds and Model formats, please review their specific guidelines.

Where do I go to upload content?
You can upload an asset directly to an existing game on the site by navigating to that game, and clicking the Add Asset button. If the game, or console, you wish to add to isn't available on the site, you can go to the [Browse] page, and add the details from the add asset page linked there. This will let you select from any consoles and games already within our database, even if they are not available on the current site you are navigating. Simply fill in the form there with information on the asset you have ripped, and upload it directly to our queue!

Adding a Game
You can add a new game to the site alongside your submission from the Add Asset page. By going to browse and click Add Asset, you will be guided through the submission process. Games require an icon to be approved for the sites.
Game icons are simply a cropped image from the game in question at 240px x 125px - please make this a screenshot when possible, or official artwork if adding a new section to the Custom/Edited category.
Here is a quick overview of what makes for a good game contribution;
Be sure you aren’t adding a duplicate of a game already in our database.
Game icons must be a png format image.
The icon should represent the game that it is being submitted for.
Try to use clean screenshots for the icon. If the game is pixel based, try to use a native a 1 x 1 pixel ratio image.
Avoid using JPEG screenshots. The JPEG format is a lower image quality as image artifacting can occur.
Don't use the game's title screen as the icon.
Try to frame your screenshot nicely.
Where possible, avoid the HUD or menu images in your icon.
Avoid game spoilers, such as a final boss or plot twist.
Try to make it interesting - some sort of action taking place works great!
What makes this game unique - what sets it apart from other games? For example, Tails debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. A good Sonic 2 icon should include him.
Vary screenshots within a series. Just because Mega Man shoots doesn't mean he has to be in the same shooting position in every icon.

Why is my pending submission taking so long?
Our pending submissions go through manual verification which requires a member of our staff to verify that is it suitable to go on the site. There are a number of reasons why there may be delays to your submission being processed - verifying you have supplied all necessary information (Correct naming and capitalization, an asset icon, game icon (if needed), and tags) while also making sure your submission follows the quality requirements to be approved will help speed the process along. Please be aware that we do not always run through the queue in chronological order, and will make efforts to reduce the queue size as a priority - this means large contributions to the same game will likely be processed quicker.
